Several years ago I posted a project on my craft blog featuring vintage glass insulators. And, this month, that project was featured on the cover of Crown Jewels of the Wire magazine! The magazine is published in Oregon and is a dedicated to collectors of these unique pieces of history.
The insulators were first produced in the mid-1800's for use with telegraph and electric lines. You can find them at almost every antique market and there are tons of ideas floating around out there on how to repurpose. Here are a few suggestions.
Buy some battery-powered tea lights, place an insulator over the light and you have created a beautiful glowing table setting.
Another idea is to wrap twine around the insulator to create hanging luminaries. Place a battery-powerd light within the hanging insulator and you've set the mood for a beautiful back-yard gathering. Or add a little water, some flowers and you have unique hanging vases.
